Following WJZ’s all-hands-on-deck coverage of the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse in April 2024, news leadership felt there was work to be done for graphics and protocol in high-alert breaking news situations. One of the ideas was to have a topical breaking news animation where producers could swap in a background image and title to have ready for air quickly. This would provide a lot more context to audiences and be especially useful on days without artist coverage like weekends.

Since I had a good idea of what WJZ was looking for, I took the lead with developing this Chyron template. I worked closely with a Group Chyron specialist to ensure the build would be flexible and useful for distribution across all markets while trying to minimize complexity that would result in syncing errors.
